SOCIALLY AWKWARD

Bob Freyer is an award winning artist from Pittsburgh, PA who paints images from an alternate world. He uses his imagination for you to see the world through his eyes. The bold images he creates shows a darker lining in his mind. Since 2013 Mr. Freyer has been showcasing work in Pittsburgh. He has participated in numerous shows throughout the U.S.

Summer is in full impact and we are ready to host another art show this year with Bob Freyer. Bob is a local artist from Pittsburgh and he and I came across each others instagram accounts and started talking a lot through the Dms. He offered to do some graphics for the store and I was stoked! I really like his style its very playful and organic. Big Union energy as I would put it. So I was like yeah dude, and than told him he show host an entire art show in shop sometime. So Saturday July 9th feel free to stop out and see his work in person, along with a limited run of Union tees designed by him.

picture Bob drew at age 8

From my early ages I can remember drawing just about anything the way that I was seeing it. From my Star Wars figures to my Hot Wheels cars, I was drawing them as I saw them and how I thought they could look different. As you can see in the attached pic I was into skating at the age of 8. My first board was Santa Cruz from cousin. It had bright orange grip tape with bright orange rails. After getting that I was hooked, I was never good on a board, I just liked to have fun on them and cruise on them. That is a drawing I did for some project we had. As I got a little older I tried doing the graffiti thing, but I wasn't that good. I can remember going under some bridges painting 8 balls lol. I didn't even know what that meant at the time.

I attended Westmoreland County Community College starting out going for commercial art. The classes were too exciting for art. Then when it came for a group show I decided to do a graphic drawing of Hitler getting assassinated by the grim reaper. That didn't go over too well with my instructor, we had a few choice words and I left the class calling her a "Nazi". After that I got into computers.

Fast forward to 2013 I got back into drawing and painting. I started painting with spray paint and stencils. At this time I was painting a ton of hip hop related pieces, and pop art pieces. From KRS One to Dr. Seuss's Cat In The Hat and other pop culture icons. Now over the years I have over 40 shows with 11 solo shows and I have developed my own style in a way. I still pull inspiration from hip hop, skating, a day to day tops, but mostly my inspiration comes from my kids and the time I spend with them. In a majority of my paintings you will see bunnies, or bunny like creatures because I just adore them.

While I prep for shows I also run a Gallery in Etna, Point Five gallery. We support a bunch of local artists while pushing their work to get seen and purchased. I do all the curating, setting up, promoting and social media.
